Country Dinner Theatre Summer Season for 2008 will be the production,
THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM with book and lyrics by Alfred Uhry and music by
Robert Waldman. The story is based on a novella by Eudora Welty.
Synopsis: In the midst of the
Mississippi woods, pretty Rosamond Musgrove lives with her father,
Clement, and her chilly, jealous stepmother, Salome. There she is
loved by her father but treated badly by his wife, never able to please
however little she complains. One day, she is instructed to clean
the house from top to toe, to wash the floor, polish the dishes and
shine the candlesticks until they gleam and glitter in the darkness.
That evening, worn out and disheveled, she meets for the first time the
dashing bandit of the woods, Jamie Lockhart. Although Rosamond has hopes
that this is the man who will steal her heart, Jamie chooses to steal
something else, her clothes.
This is a Bluegrass musical including fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, and bass music. The action of the play is interspersed with square dance calls, production numbers, and beautiful ballads.
